Ordinarily, I would display my flag over the Memorial Day weekend and try to think of expressions of pride and gratitude not already ruined by repetition. This year is different.
This is the first year of Project 2025, the “second American revolution” that reeks with hostility to the ideals of the first one. Would my usual flag display be misinterpreted as enthusiasm for the ongoing attacks by Trump and his toadies on everything the fallen died to defend?
Dammit, I will not cede my flag to cruelty and greed. Right after raising the flag on Saturday morning, I put up a yard sign I had improvised on Friday night. It’s easily read by anybody walking on my street. Maybe next year I will buy some poster board to make a larger version readable by anybody driving past my house.

I like the sign very much; I need to say something out there, here, too!

A good way to solve the quandary. The current problems are not so easy to solve.

It is deeply upsetting, even from my distance across the Atlantic in Ireland, to see democracy so threatened and abused in America. Unfortunately, the reputation of the country is in the gutter. A terrible thing to happen. We can only hope for a return to better days.

I agree we need to take back the flag and its symbolism. I like your solution!
