Workaround #1

This post tests a workaround for a perversity in WP Reader.

Reader’s default way to display a post is OK for some blogs but disastrous for mine.  In general, it is all too easy to get the default, rather than a display with the author’s actual theme and formatting.

If seen in Reader’s default rendering, the body of this post starts with a suggestion to click on the [View original] button.  If this post is seen as it should be seen, that suggestion is replaced by white space.  There may well be a more elegant workaround, findable by consulting the “happiness engineers” and/or careful study of blogs not mangled by Reader’s default.  But I won’t have time to go down that rabbit hole in the foreseeable future.

    1. Interesting.  WP stopped sending me e-mails of the posts in my subscription list years ago.  (The switches are still nominally ON.)  I started using Reader as a stop-gap and decided to stick with it.  (Back then, Reader did not steer people toward a mangled rendering.)  When I did get e-mails, they weren’t exactly like my posts but were almost always close enough, so I’m guessing that what you’re seeing has the body of the e-mailed post starting with a summary sentence on a pink background, maybe after a little more space than usual.  Have I guessed right?
