My risk of seeming to co-opt Memorial Day for my own agenda is dwarfed by the risks taken by the military and those taken by honest election officials who received death threats for refusing to aid Donald Trump’s coup d’etat. Robert Reich’s
Memorial Day and seditious conspiracy …
summarizes the voluminous evidence of Trump’s guilt. The coup’s failure on 2021-01-06 did not end the neofascist threat. As Reich puts it,

The body of my own letter to Garland is as follows:
I am writing to request vigorous prosecution of those who, by credible evidence, may be guilty of seditious conspiracy. That includes former president Donald J Trump. Yes, I am well aware of the logistical complications that a prison term for a convicted former president would entail.
You may have heard a prudential objection about kicking a hornet nest as a reason to go easy on Trump. But the nest has already been kicked. Neofascist hornets came perilously close to overthrowing the government of the United States on 2021-01-06. Whether Trump’s aggressive kicking constitutes criminal guilt is a question that should be put before a jury.

Thanks for sharing the Robert Reich link and the Voltaire quote. Some unfortunate truths about human nature endure. We are lackadaisical learners.

There’s no overstating how despicable Trump is. Yet, millions upon millions of Americans love him. Every one of them is despicable too, by my reckoning.

You know, I never really paid much attention to Voltaire. Clearly my French Lit was lacking … thank you. I will rectify this deficiency!
