The sound of cyclists
comes from somewhere behind me.
Just wind in dry leaves.

It really did sound like 1 or 2 cyclists were behind me on this rail trail. I stood off to the right so they could pass, but they kept coming. I turned around, saw that nobody was coming, and then saw/heard dry leaves make the noise as the wind made them move.

❤ Who’s seen the wind? ;)

Does the sound of the dry leaves moving in the wind hang from the movement of the leaves or fly in the wind?

OOPS, I posted my reply like a separate comment.

A physics prof could have some fun with this. I’d say the noise flies in the air, not the wind, at the speed of sound. Wanna compute with 1% precision or better? Maybe the speed of sounds coming to me from the leaves is a tad faster when I am downwind and a tad slower when I am upwind.

Sounds like the beginning of a Hitchcock movie!
